When Ride With Heart was born in 2020 my dad was one of my biggest supporters! The next year in 2021 he still showed up to help with this event even after an 8 vertebra fusion surgery only two months before.
Christmas of 2021 my dads health changed. By the time we got him to the hospital his heart was failing and his ejection fraction was at 15%! How did we not see this sooner! On January 18th my dad lost his battle to heart disease. CLEARLY the message and knowledge of heart disease isn't quite powerful enough. We can help spread the word so that YOU may not have to lose YOUR DAD to heart disease because you'll see the signs.
I am a 71 year old male who considered himself in excellent health. Very active everyday from hiking, to biking and eating an extremely healthy diet. On mother's day 2022 I was sitting the backyard watching my son plant a rose bush for my wife on Mother's Day. All of the sudden my throat felt I had swallowed something and it was stuck and would not go down. That blockage feeling then spread up through my throat toward my jaw, at the same time I was feeling sort of dizzy and nauseous. I sat down in a chair to relax a bit more and then things really started spinning. I knew at that point that something was not right. I instructed my wife to call 9-11. My arms started going numb and the infamous chest pains started. I knew at this point that things were not looking good. On the ambulance ride to the hospital the pain kept increasing and the pressure on my chest was close to unbearable. I was rushed into the ER and the doctors noticed that one of my arteries was 99% blocked. They cleared the blockage and inserted a stent. I went home the next day. The key yo the whole incident was only you know your body and can feel when things are different. So no matter how well you think you are or whether or not you have a family history of heart issues ...If you don't "feel" right, have it checked, it just might save your life. Learn to read your body.
